Russia has issued a stark warning about the growing risk of an “explosive escalation” between Iran and Israel, cautioning that the hostilities could spiral out of control. This statement follows Israel’s recent bombing of military targets in Iran, an action Israel claims was a retaliatory strike. Israel has also warned Tehran of severe consequences if it retaliates, while both the United States and Britain have called for Iran to avoid escalating the situation further.

Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid pushing the region toward a “catastrophic scenario.” Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed these concerns at a BRICS summit, noting that the intensifying conflict resembles a “chain reaction” that threatens to bring the Middle East to the brink of a full-scale war. Russia, which maintains strong ties with Iran, is particularly concerned about the potential destabilization in a region where it holds significant security and economic interests.
